Part-time Teacher

This part-time position is available in late June 2015 at the Community Center Preschool. This position is with the Recreation and Community Services Department of the Borough of Eatontown.

All applicants must possess a valid teaching certificate in nursery school or elementary education issued by the New Jersey Department of Education or in the process of obtaining said certification. Prior experience as a Teacher in a group learning environment is preferred. During the school year, the part-time Teacher works twenty hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8:30AM-12:30PM. During July and August, there is a six week summer camp and the part-time Teacher works nine hours per week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30am-11:30am. Our Preschool follows the Eatontown Board of Education school year calendar. Medical, dental, prescription and paid time off benefits are not available for this position.

DEFINITION:

Under supervision of the Director of Recreation and Community Services and the day to day supervision of the full-time Teacher, performs provides instruction of the pre-school level to provide children with a learning environment designed to help children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally; does related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Plans subject matter to be taught using various teaching techniques.

Prepares study program in accordance with standard pre-school curriculum.

Provides counsel to children on problems related to social behavior and personal relationships.

Prepares accurate and informative reports.

Sees that proper measures are taken at all times to eliminate actual and potential hazards to the safety of the children

Does related work as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Possession of a current and valid teaching certificate in nursery school or elementary education issued by the NJ Department of Education or in the process of obtaining said certification.

Experience:

One year of teaching experience in a group program for children which may include supervised student teaching.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of early childhood and/or elementary education.

Knowledge of the problems involved with the care, custody and treatment of children.

Knowledge of the techniques used in counseling children.

Ability to communicate with and relate to children.

Ability to discern children’s needs and interests.

Ability to recognize learning problems.

Ability to comprehend, remember, and carry out written and oral instructions and directions.

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

Ability to understand and observe rules, regulations and policies of the Borough of Eatontown.
