HEAVY TRAFFIC ALERT- SUNDAY AUGUST 2, 2015

HASKELL DAY AT MONMOUTH PARK RACE TRACK

Attention all Eatontown residents:  Monmouth Park will be having its annual Haskell Race Day on Sunday August 2.  This event always brings large crowds to the area and causes heavier than normal traffic.

This year, the event will include the triple- crown winning horse American Pharaoh.  Because of this, the track is expecting a crowd of somewhere between 50,000 and 70,000 people to attend the event.

An event of this size will bring unprecedented traffic to our area, especially along State Hwy 36, State Hwy 71, and Wyckoff Rd.

The gates at the track will open at 9:00 a.m.  with the  main event scheduled for approximately 6:00 p.m.  The heaviest traffic is expected between 11 am and 2 pm inbound and between 7 and 8 pm outbound. Be aware that there will be heavy and possibly gridlock traffic the entire day. Please plan accordingly.

The Eatontown Police Department will be manually controlling all traffic lights along Rt. 36 for the inbound and outbound traffic.

Because of the unprecedented size of the expected crowd, we will also do a one-time closing of several “cut-through” streets along Wyckoff Rd. including Meadowbrook Ave. and Pine St.

The Eatontown Fire and First Aid will be posted at stations both north and south of Rt. 36 for the entire day so that they can respond efficiently to any emergency calls throughout the Borough in the event of an emergency.

We encourage all residents to plan for heavy traffic for the entire weekend, especially on Sunday August 2nd.   Avoid Rt. 36 if at all possible.  Please plan accordingly if you need to travel during these times.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO MERELY REPORT HEAVY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS DURING THE HASKELL EVENT.
