Historical Museum - Thelma Johnson Exhibit
Sunday, August 7, 2022
The Eatontown Historical Committee is pleased to host an exhibit of landscape
paintings, jewelry, and knitting created by Thelma Johnson. Thelma perfected
her artistic talent using many instruction books, including Bob Ross’s Joy of
Painting. We are thankful to Eatontown residents, Linda Murakata M.D. and
Sarina Cartagena, Thelma Johnson’s granddaughter, for sharing their collection
with our community. Thelma Johnson was a descendant of the Reevey and Richardson families. Her ancestors can be traced back to before 1771 in Eatontown. Thelma was born in Eatontown on March 12, 1920 and was educated in the Eatontown School system. She lived in New York for a time before returning to New Jersey. Thelma Johnson died May 16, 2020, two months after
turning 100 years old.
The exhibit can be viewed at the Eatontown Historical Museum, 75 Broad St. on Saturday, April 30th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 1st from 12
p.m. to 5 p.m. during the “Weekend in Old Monmouth” event as well as the first Sunday of each month, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (through the summer)
