Library Laughs

When I worked for a major book store chain, the strangest thing happened when customers would come in and ask for a book. They would start out by saying “I saw, I heard, or was told by a friend that,” and then would proceed to give the title of the book.

The only problem was that they very rarely asked for the correct title. After a while it became quite comical. Because there were so many mistakes in the titles, we decided to keep a list and began to write them down. What follows is just a partial glimpse of that list. I hope it gives you a few chuckles!

ASKED FOR                                                     ACTUAL TITLE

THE K-POINT                                                   THE G-SPOT

THE GOULASH APPAREL                              THE GULAG ARCHIPELAGO – A.

                                                                                                    SOLZHENITSYN

THE TWIN TOWERS                                        THE TWO TOWERS – J.R.R. TOLKIEN

GOD’S LAKE                                                     THE MOTE IN GOD’S EYE – LARRY

                                                                                                                          NIVEN

THE PROFIT – GABRIEL KALLAHAN               THE PROPHET – KAHLIL GIBRAN

THE HELMET – J. TOLKENY                             THE HOBBIT – J.R.R. TOLKIEN

THORNS & BUSHES                                         THE THORN BIRDS – COLLEEN

                                                                                                            MCCULLOUGH

THE BEST:

“I DON’T KNOW THE NAME OF THE BOOK, BUT THE AUTHOR IS “SYMPHONY SHELTER.”- THE AUTHOR’S NAME WAS ACTUALLY, “SIDNEY SHELDON.”

I hope you enjoyed this humorous look into the literary world!
